Before installing Ranger, you need to make sure that the cluster meets the following requirements:

  • An ADS cluster of version 1.6.2 or higher is installed and configured.

  • The ADS cluster is enabled and configured for SASL_PLAINTEXT with PLAIN, Kerberos, or LDAP authentication. For more help, follow the guides:

  • When using an external DBMS to store metadata, a MySQL database instance used by Ranger should be started and available. The Ranger installer will create two new users (default names: rangeradmin and rangerlogger) and two new databases (default names: ranger and ranger_audit).

  • Before configuring authorization for all users, a principal must be created in the MIT Kerberos database or an account in the MS Active Directory database.
